When I was small, my mom used to give the family a funny special treat from time to time---she would make breakfast food for supper.

I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast for supper. She had been at work all day but wanted to do something special for us all.

On that evening, my mom placed orange juice ,a plate of eggs, sausages and very burnt toast in front of my dad. I waited to see if anyone noticed. But my dad just took his toast, smiled at my mom and asked me how my day at school had been. I don’t remember what I told him that night. But I do remember watching him put butter and jelly(果冻) on that toast. He ate it up as usual, every single bite.

After dinner, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the toast. I’ll never forget what he said: “Honey, I love burnt toast.”

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night . I asked him if he really liked his toast burnt. He wrapped(抱紧) me in his arms and said : “ Your Mommy worked very hard today. She’s really tired. And besides----a bit of burnt toast never hurt anyone!”

Life is full of imperfect things. Nobody is perfect either. I’m not the best at anything. I forget birthdays and some special dates just like everyone else does. But I’ve learned something important over the years. We need to accept each other’s faults. We need to celebrate each other’s differences. These two things are the keys to creating healthy, growing and lasting relationships. This rule goes for any relationship---friends, family, colleagues, even the people you meet on the bus. Understanding is the basis of everything, whether between a husband and wife, a

6

parent and child or just between two friends. Don’t put the key to your happiness in someone else’s pocket---keep it in your own. And don’t get upset if the toast gets burnt. Remember, burnt toast never hurt anyone. It’s the kind thoughts that count, and

the people with those kind thoughts who make life worth living. 61.Why did the mother make breakfast food for dinner? A. She wants to make an ordinary dinner special B. She was too tired to cook after a day’s work

C. She believed it was healthier to eat breakfast food. D. It was a family tradition

62.This special supper includes some EXCEPT__________________ A. sausages B. toast with butter and jelly C. orange juice D. a plate of burnt eggs 63.What can we infer from the article?

A. Burnt toast was the father’s favorite food

B. Every family member liked burnt toast except the author C. The father appreciated what the mother did for the family D. The author dared not mention the burnt toast to the mother 64.What kind of person is the father?

A. Humorous B. Caring C. Strict D. Out-standing 65.According to the writer, which of the following is NOT the key to creating healthy, growing and lasting relationship? A. Accepting one another’s faults. B. Celebrating each other’s differences C. Understanding between people D. Making life worth living.

When we arrived at her little house, we found it a little empty without grandfather. He had always said that the Christmas tree was the most important decoration of all. So we immediately began to work on the beautiful artificial tree that was kept stored in grandfather’s closet. After we finished, we stepped back to admire our handwork. To us, it looked as beautiful as the tree in Rockefeller Center. But something was missing.

“Where’s your star?” I asked. The star was my grandmother’s favorite part of the tree.

“Why, it must be here somewhere,” she said, starting to sort through the boxes again. “Your grandfather always packed everything so carefully when he took the tree down.”

As we emptied box after box and found no star, my grandmother’s eyes filled with tears. This was no ordinary ornament (装饰), but an elaborate (精致的) golden star covered with colored jewels and blue lights that blinked (闪烁) on and off. Moreover grandfather had given it to grandmother fifty years ago on their first Christmas together. Now, on her first Christmas without him, the star was gone too. “Don’t worry, Grandmother,” I reassured her. “We’ll find it for you.”

My sisters and I climbed on a chair and began to search that all closets of grandfather’s. We found grandfather’s old yearbooks and photographs of relatives, party dresses and jewelry boxes, but no star.

The next morning. after breakfast, the family sat down together to open presents. Father was

in charge of passing out the presents.

“The last gift is to Grandmother,” he said, in a puzzled voice.

My grandmother shakily opened the box. Her face lit up with joy when she unfolded the tissue paper and pulled out a glorious golden star. There was a note attached. Her voice trembled as she read it aloud:

Don’t be angry with me, dear. I broke your star while putting up the decorations, and I couldn’t bear to tell you. I thought it was time for a new one. I hope it brings you as much joy as the first one. Merry Christmas.

书面表达

Fellow students,

Recently Bird Flu is spreading in some cities of China. It has caused many people’s attention. How to deal with it? Here are some suggestions. First, you should keep taking exercise every day and have enough sleep to rest. Second, you are supposed to eat healthily. If you want to eat chicken or duck, you must cook it completely. Third, remember to open the windows very often in order to keep the air in the rooms clean and fresh. Finally, you’d better not go to the public places. And you have to keep away from birds. I think forming a good health habit is very important. For example, wash hands very often, try not to eat uncooked and cold food and so on.
