摘要:Although known jitter meters containing sampling-type phase comparatorssupply a PAM signal which directly and linearly reproduces the phase/time function, they
have a modulation range which is too narrow and is less than +/- pi/2 at high bit repetitionrates. The novel method is intended to operate directly on arbitrary information-carryingdigital signals, to convert the phase directly into a PAM voltage and have a modulationcapacity which is basically not restricted. The measurement result is composed of acoarse phase value and a fine phase value. For this purpose, the jitter-free bit clockperiod is subdivided into n part periods and from the ordinal number of the part periodinto which the digital signal pulse edge to be determined falls, a coarse phase value isdetermined. The fine phase value is supplied by a sampling-type phase comparator theramp of which is not much longer than one part period, is started with a defined delaycompared with the end of the part period concerned and is sampled with the digitalsignal pulse edge which is delayed in a defined manner.
