Reading report of Robinson Crusoe Robinson Crusoe was one of the world’s most popular adventure novels. It wrote
by Daniel Defoe. The main person in this novel was Robinson. He was a youth of about eighteen years old who resides in England. His father wishes him to become a lawyer, but Robinson Crusoe dreams of going on sea voyages. His father warned that a middle-class existence was the most stable. Robinson ignored his words. When his parents refused to let him take at least one journey, he ran away with a friend and set sail to London. But when Crusoe’s friend know the circumstances that he left his family without permission, he became angry and told him that he should have never come to the sea. So, Robinson Crusoe made his own way to London. He managed to find another voyage. But on the way, the ship was attacked by Turkish pirates, then the pirates brought all the sailors and passengers into the Moorish port to be slaves. Fortunately, Robinson Crusoe escaped and went to Brazil. In this new country, Robinson Crusoe observed that there were much wealth comes from plantations. He determined to buy one for himself. After a few years, he had some partners. These men wanted to trade slaves overseas, and they wanted Robinson Crusoe to be the master of the trade. Robinson Crusoe decided to join them. But they met the bad weather on the sea; Robinson Crusoe was the only survivor. He managed to let boat to the shore of an island. And that was the island Robinson Crusoe had lived for twenty-seven years. During that time, he recreated his English life, built his homes, got the necessities from the island or the boat that dropped anchor at his island, learnt how to cook and raised goats and crops. One time he tried to use a boat to explore the nearby island; he lost, because his boat was so far away from the shore of his island.
There was no man appearance until about 15 years into his stay. He saw a footprint, and later observed cannibalistic savages were eating prisoners. They didn’t live on the island; they come from a mainland that was not too far away. Robinson Crusoe was filled with rag, and he decided to save the prisoners the next time. Some years later they returned. Using his guns, Robinson Crusoe scared them away and saved a young savage, he called him Friday for the date he saved him. Friday was very smart; they became friends and lived with happiness. Then, another ship of savages arrived with three prisoners. Together Robinson Crusoe and Friday were able to save two of them. One was a Spanish man; the other was Friday’s father. After a few months, a boat of European dropped anchor at his island due to sailors mutinied. Robinson Crusoe helped the captain got back his boat, so, the captain helped Robinson Crusoe to return home.
This story was based on a true story, the real Robinson Crusoe was a Scotsman named Alexander Selkirk, he really had some special sailing experience, it was the inspiration of Daniel Defoe. Then this novel came out and became popular. People called him “father of the European novel”.
After reading this novel, I thought about dream at first. Everybody had dreams, but sometimes it can’t come true. So, was it right or wrong when we hold our own dreams that everyone against, especially our parents? Actually, I’m not sure. But I believed that in many times we didn’t want to listen to our parents’ words as Robinson Crusoe. This may be a kind of treachery mental state. However, everyone have to suffering this period. If you didn’t tried you can not grow up the experiences that others told you were still others’. If you tried your best, the result seemed not
important, because we can learn from the failure and we gain the experience. “A fall in the pit, a gain in the wit” that was the gateway to grow up.
On the other hand, I thought knowledge was so important for everyone. Just like a slogan by Francis Bacon “Knowledge is power”. It had given us great thinking again. Robinson Crusoe, in an uninhabited island to survive alone for twenty-seven years, it was relied on his intelligence and labor. If he didn’t have knowledge, he may died in that uninhabited island or even be eaten by the cannibalistic savages. It also showed that the human wisdom was infinite. Robinson Crusoe used his knowledge learnt before or the knowledge learnt from the island to manage survived for such a long time in this uninhabited island. If I were him, I didn’t know how to make me live, dark, cold, hungry, and lonely, they may defeat me completely.
What’s more, I supposed that Robinson Crusoe was a real hero. He had many good qualities of human beings, such as brave, strong, wisdom and love of labor. He was not afraid of the difficulties, he full of courage and never gave in. Although, this story happened a few hundred years ago, but Robinson Crusoe’s spirit was worth study in these days.
