Aswehaveanalyzedabove,stylisticdevicesarefrequent-lyusedinthediscourseofliteraryworks,especiallyinspeech,toachievecertainspecificpurposesandtomakethestyleofaspeechsomewhatparticulartotheothers.Generallyspeaking,aspeechmayhavethefollowingstylisticcharacteristics:
Tobeginwith,itmustbeverypersuasive.Thusthesen-tencepatternsareverywell-organized,withrepetitions,paral-lelismandcontrastsfrequentlyused.
Secondly,itshouldbeemotionalsoastobeconvincingbecausethespeakershouldfacetheaudiencedirectlyandhiswordsshouldnotonlybeorderlyandinformativebutalsobeexpressiveandinspiring.Therefore,thestylisticdevicessuchassimilesandmetaphorsareofteninvolved.
Finally,inmanycases,written-conversationalstyleisusuallyusedwithnotveryformaldictionornotverycompli-catedsentencestructure.———————————————【References】
