A Wonderful Trip
Last summer, my family and I went on the most amazing trip ever! We visited my aunt and uncle who live on a farm out in the countryside. I had been looking forward to this trip for months and it ended up being even better than I imagined.
The journey there was kind of long, but also really fun. My little brother and I played road trip games like I Spy and tried to spot different license plates from all over. We stopped a few times to stretch our legs and get snacks. My favorite part was getting slushies at a gas station - I got my favorite flavor which is blue raspberry.
When we finally arrived at the farm, I could hardly contain my excitement. We drove up a long dirt driveway and I watched out the window as we passed fields, a little creek, and a huge red barn. My aunt and uncle were waiting outside their farmhouse to greet us. We all hugged and then they gave us a tour around the property.
The farm was like something out of a picture book. There was a big vegetable garden overflowing with tomatoes, carrots, lettuce and more. They had an orchard too with rows of apple,
pear and peach trees. But of course, the best part was seeing all the animals!
My aunt and uncle had cows, pigs, horses, goats, sheep, chickens, and even a few llamas! I couldn't believe how many different creatures they had. The pigs were my favorite - they were so cute and pudgy as they rolled around in the mud. The baby goats were pretty hilarious too, leaping and frolicking all over the place. I kept having to dodge out of their way so I didn't get head-butted!
Each morning, we helped out with chores like feeding the animals, collecting eggs from the chicken coop, and milking the cows. I had never milked a cow before so that was a totally new experience for me. The cow's warm body and the rhythmic tugging felt really strange at first. My aunt showed me how to do it though, and by the end of the week I was a pro!
In the afternoons, we had free time to explore and play. We went on long walks through the fields and hiked up into the woods. We caught fish in the creek and had a big fish fry one night for dinner, yum! Some days we just lazed around in the yard, reading books, watching the clouds, and playing games. My brother and I led the farm dogs on all kinds of silly
adventures around the property. We found a pristine swimming
hole as well, and spent hours splashing around in the cool, refreshing water.
At night, we looked up at the most incredible stars I had ever seen. With no city lights around, the sky was blanketed in a thick, velvety sheet of glittering stars. It looked like someone had scattered a million diamonds across the heavens. My uncle showed us how to find the constellations and we spotted the Big Dipper, Orion's Belt, and even a few shooting stars!
We ended up staying at the farm for two wonderful weeks. By the time we had to leave, I felt so at peace and relaxed. Getting back to nature and being around all those animals was amazing. I loved learning about where our food comes from and helping out with the farm duties. More than anything, it was so nice to spend quality time with my family, without any screens or devices to distract us.
On the drive back home, my brother and I were quieter than on the drive there. We had both had such an incredible time, we just gazed out the windows watching the scenery go by. I felt so grateful that my parents had made this special trip happen for us. It was a summer I'll never forget - a wonderful trip full of fun, love, and amazing memories. I can't wait to go back to the farm again someday soon!
